Being the man of God he is he knows better but his sinful nature allows him to and pushes him even to continue down the path of the unrighteous. I think he's lost in his addiction but he likes it and feels guilty bc it's doc prescribed so he's been directed to use so he's confused but he knows it's wrong and he loves the irony bc of the greed that makes him escuse what he knows to be wrong just like society he's in a bliss with himself bc it's like a perfect storm as he's instructed by law almost to do wrong but he likes the feeling the numb so he embraces it and in so embraces evil that brings it.
